Here, the client was quite articulate about the desired design for the kitchen. It was to be minimalist, and to “disappear” when it came time for entertaining. The intended result was that when the doors and drawers were closed, the utilitarian aspects of the kitchen would disappear. In order to achieve the design, a close collaborative relationship was established between the contractor, the contractor’s cabinet shop, and the architectural metals shop. Much of the work was done from sketches and mock-ups made on site, which were then carried back to the respective shops for fabrication.
